Blue Jay Battalion

The Blue Jay Battalion is a unit in the Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) that uses world-class leadership training to transform college students into US Army officers. The program is hosted at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and consists of cadets from JHU, University of Maryland Baltimore County, Stevenson University, University of Baltimore, and the Maryland Institute College of Art. Through weekly leadership laboratories, classroom instruction with experienced Army leaders, an extensive physical fitness regimen, immersion in military lifestyle and customs, and hands-on practice performing important Army skills, the Blue Jay Battalion produces leaders of character, presence, and intellect that are better able to serve their country and accomplish their personal goals.

Training is planned and conducted entirely by the cadets, and leadership responsibilities within the battalion increase as cadets advance through a four-year program. Their efforts during the school year are complemented by a wide variety of summer training opportunities organized nationally, including Airborne, Air Assault, and other prestigious schools. ROTC classes award college credit, and well-qualified cadets are eligible for full academic scholarships on a competitive basis. No prior military experience is required to enroll, but cadets are united by their desire to serve as officers in the US Army. The path is not easy, but if you have the motivation, commitment, and resilience to lead soldiers, we'll provide you with everything else you need to get there.
